Sour Cream Mushroom Sauce

Mushroom sauce with sour cream, perfect to add to a stake, a side dish or make it a light dinner with a salad.

Are you a mushrooms lover? Then you’ll find this mushroom sauce with sour cream a little bit of a mushrooms heaven! It’s sooo easy to make and so versatile! You can make this mushroom sour cream sauce vegetarian and serve it as a side dish. Or add a bit of meat if vegetarian is not your cup of tea (I’ve got a very similar recipe here), or even use it as a sauce for your steaks.

If you are anything like me and prefer light dinners, this recipe could easily be turned into a main meal. Just cook the mushroom sauce with sour cream a little longer so the sauce is thicker and pair this the recipe with a side salad. I really liked it with this salad I made with baby spinach, roasted carrots, chickpeas, feta and pistachio.

For this mushrooms with sour cream recipe I chose not to add garlic as my daughter is so picky lately but I think garlic gives so much more flavor to this dish. So if you are a fan, go ahead and add some to your recipe. I also omitted fresh herbs for the same reason but I would totally add some copped dill or parsley, both go great with this simple but flavorful recipe. But I took the liberty to add some hot chili pepper flakes on my plate (which I may have spread it a little bit too liberally)

  1. The recipe sounds delicious, but the meat should be spelled STEAK, as in T-bone steak, not stake as in garden stake, used to prop up a plant.

    1. Thanks, Karen! It’s just a typo, used correctly throughout the rest of the content.

  2. The first ingredient is “1/4 butter”. Would that be 1/4 CUP? Or 1/4 STICK ? This recipe looks great. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Oopsy! So sorry about that, Martha! It’s 1/4 stick, rectified now. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! xoxo

      1. No problem. I’m so excited about this recipe, but if I don’t have all of the particulars and try to guess, I panic that I’ll get it wrong, LOL! Like it’s a huge deal, right, and not just a recipe for sauce?
Thanks for clearing things up for me!

  3. This “Mushrooms in Sour Cream Sauce” recipe sounds delicious! I have a ‘shmancy’ dinner party coming up soon, so this will definitely be an impressive sauce to put over the NY Strip Steaks which my (steak expert) hubby is going to grill. Thanks!
