In a bowl add the warm water, yeast and a teaspoon of sugar. Stir to combine and leave at room temperature for about 5-10 minutes until the yeast starts bubbling.
In a mixing bowl sift the flour and make a well in the middle.
Pour the yeast mixture, add the egg, rest of the sugar, salt, milk and melted butter.
Mix well until the dough forms then knead until you get a soft and elastic ball.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and leave at room temperature for about 1 hour or until doubled in volume.
When the dough has risen, punch it down gently and shape it into 2 logs.
Place the logs into 2 greased baking pans, cover and let rise again at room temperature until the logs are double in size.
In the meantime, heat the oven to 350F.
Bake the bread for about 30 minutes until golden brown and the top sounds hollow when tapped.
Leave to cool slightly in the pan before removing and slicing.
