How to make farmhouse bunny crate

This DIY bunny crate combines rustic charm with seasonal sweetness, making it perfect for Easter or spring décor.

Materials

To bring this lovely farmhouse Easter décor to life, you’ll need the following essential materials:

  • Wooden Crate: The foundation of your project, offering a sturdy and rustic base.
  • Bunny Head Plaques: These adorable accents bring the Easter theme to life.
  • White Chalk Paint: Adds a fresh, vintage look with a farmhouse feel.

Equipment

Here’s what you’ll need to assemble your DIY bunny crate:

  • Paint Brush: For even application of paint.
  • Glue Sticks: Ensures a strong hold for your decorations.
  • Hot Glue Gun: A crafting essential to adhere the bunny plaques securely.

Step by step instructions

Step 1: Prep and Paint

Start by applying white chalk paint to the outside, top rim, and front of the wooden crate. Paint the front and sides of the bunny head plaques as well. Let each coat dry completely before moving on.

Step 2: Assemble the Bunny Crate

Once the paint is dry, add hot glue to the ends of the crate and firmly press the bunny plaques onto each side. For better adhesion, wait to paint the backside of the plaques until after they’re glued in place.

Step 3: Final Touches

After securing the plaques, paint any remaining unpainted areas to ensure a polished, cohesive look. Allow the crate to dry completely before use.

Tips

  1. Use Thin Coats of Chalk Paint: This prevents clumping and gives a smoother finish.
  2. Secure the Glue: Apply glue generously to ensure the bunny plaques stay firmly in place.
  3. Sand the Edges: Lightly sanding the edges of the crate after painting can add a distressed, farmhouse look.

Craft Variations

  1. Paint the crate in pastel colors like soft pink or light blue for a more playful Easter vibe.
  2. Use stencils to add “Happy Easter” text or floral designs to the crate.
  3. Swap wooden bunny plaques for felt or fabric bunnies for a softer, whimsical touch.
  4. Add ribbon or twine for extra farmhouse flair.

How to decorate the inside of the crate

Fill your farmhouse bunny crate with seasonal goodies like faux grass, colorful eggs, or fresh flowers. Place it on your kitchen counter, mantel, or as a centerpiece for your Easter table.

Other options include:

  • Use the crate as a unique vase for a bouquet of tulips or daffodils.
  • Fill it with Easter treats like chocolate eggs, jelly beans, and marshmallow chicks.
  • Add small potted plants such as herbs or succulents for a natural touch.
  • Display decorative egg ornaments or hand-painted wooden eggs inside the crate.

No matter how you choose to decorate the inside of your farmhouse bunny crate, it will surely add a charming touch to your home during the Easter season.
