How do you get your kitchen ready for cleaning?

This kitchen cleaning checklist printable is perfect for helping you stay on track while you’re deep cleaning your kitchen. But before you can start marking tasks off your list, there are a few things you need to do to get your kitchen ready for cleaning. Before you start cleaning, make sure to:

  • Remove all dirty linens and décor. Take all your kitchen towels, washcloths, and other linens to the laundry room and wash them. Then, take down all your decorations to make it easier to wipe all the surfaces down.
  • Clear off the counters. To make cleaning the counters quick and easy, take everything off the surface. You can place all the appliances and containers on the dining room table until you’re ready to return them to their proper locations. Before replacing the items, make sure to wipe each piece down and thoroughly clean it.
  • Disinfect the sink and counters. Since disinfectant needs a few minutes to work its magic, it’s a good idea to spray the cleaner on your sink and work surfaces and let it soak. Give the disinfectant at least 15 minutes to soak before wiping it off.
  • Clean under appliances. While you’re waiting for your disinfectant to work, pull out the large appliances, like the refrigerator, and use your vacuum to clean up any crumbs or other debris from the floor. Then, return the appliances back to their location in the kitchen.

How many times a month should you clean your kitchen?

Since you use your kitchen multiple times a day, it can get dirty pretty quickly. That means (aside from your bathrooms) it’s the room in your home that needs to be cleaned most often. But while it’s not essential that you deep clean your kitchen every week, it is a good idea to tackle a few cleaning tasks around the room to help maintain its cleanliness between deep cleanings.

To ensure your kitchen stays clean and germ free, it’s a good idea to deep clean the room at least once per month. In between deep cleanings, you can help keep your kitchen looking clean by taking care of these small cleaning tasks each day:

  • Do the dishes and scrub the sink
  • Wipe off the countertops and stovetop after each meal
  • Sweep crumbs from the floor and mop as messes occur
  • Spot clean messes around the room
  • Clear out old food from the refrigerator at least one per week
  • Keep paper clutter under control by sorting the mail each day
  • Clear clutter from the countertops and other surfaces at the end of each day

How do you make a kitchen cleaning schedule?

Creating a kitchen cleaning schedule is a great way to help you stay on task as you’re cleaning each day. And since your own cleaning schedule can be adjusted to suit your own needs, there are a variety of ways you can set up a schedule that works for you.

Most cleaning schedules are broken into three categories:

  • Daily cleaning. As you’re planning out the cleaning that needs to be done in your kitchen, think about the areas of the room that need attention on a regular basis. Those tasks are ones that need to be added to your daily cleaning schedule.
  • Weekly cleaning. Other areas of the room only need to be focused on once per week. Tasks like mopping the floors, wiping off the outside of appliances, and washing linens, are perfect for adding to your weekly cleaning schedule.
  • Monthly cleaning. All the other large cleaning tasks, like the ones listed in my printable kitchen cleaning checklist, can be tackled once per month. These deep cleaning chores will help you keep your kitchen spotless from month to month.

Keeping your kitchen clean is not only essential for maintaining a healthy and hygienic environment, but it also helps create a welcoming and organized space. Armed with my kitchen cleaning checklist and these tips, your kitchen will be ready for any cooking or entertaining you have planned. Happy cleaning!
