How to make mop ghost

Simple to make and incredibly cute, this ghost craft idea is a perfect addition to your seasonal décor, and it’s sure to become a treasured item year after year.

Materials

  • Mason Jar: This serves as the base for your ghost, providing stability and structure.
  • Mop Head: The soft and fluffy fibers create the ghostly body, adding a delightful texture.
  • Faux Leather: Used for making the eyes, faux leather gives a shiny, attractive finish that contrasts beautifully with the mop’s softness.
  • Witch Hat Pick: This adds a whimsical touch, transforming your ghost into a charming Halloween character.

Equipment

  • Glue Gun: This is crucial for securely attaching various parts of your mop ghost together.
  • Glue Sticks: Make sure to have plenty of glue sticks on hand for your glue gun.
  • Scissors: You’ll need a good pair of scissors to cut the faux leather and modify the witch hat pick.

Instructions

  1. I started by using scissors to cut a hole in the bottom of the witch hat pick. It was pretty easy to use the scissors to cut through.
  2. Next, taking the faux leather piece (about 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches), I folded it in half and cut an oval shape for the eyes. I trimmed it as needed to achieve the desired size.
  3. Flip the mop head over, placing the flat bottom on top. If desired, use hot glue to secure it onto the mason jar for a more permanent hold.
  4. Apply hot glue to the bottom of the witch hat pick and firmly press it on top of the mop head. I removed a bow from the hat pick and hot glued it to the top of the hat, trimming the ends for a neat finish.
  5. Lastly, add some hot glue to the backside of the faux leather pieces and press them firmly onto the front of the mop head to create the eyes.

Tips

  • Tip 1: If you want your mop ghost to withstand the elements, consider spraying it with a weather-resistant sealant after fully assembling it.
  • Tip 2: Use different colored faux leather for the eyes to create a more vibrant look.
  • Tip 3: Add glow-in-the-dark paint on the mop head for a fun twist that makes your ghost visible at night!

Halloween is around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than by conjuring up some spooky spirit with a fun mop ghost DIY?

Craft Variations

  1. Rainbow Mop Ghost: Use brightly colored faux leather for a cheerful Halloween touch.
  2. Mini Mop Ghosts: Create smaller versions to hang as decorations around your home.
  3. Themed Mop Ghosts: Dress your ghost in themed accessories, such as scarves or necklaces, to match your décor.
  4. Glowing Mop Ghosts: Incorporate LED lights in the mason jar for a glowing effect at night.
