Snowman Cake Pops
My daughter wanted us to start working on our Christmas menu and came up with a snowman theme idea so this is how these snowman cake pops got born. She is one creative munchkin and loves playing with food so she insisted in helping me make these. Surprisingly she hasn’t created any mess although it took us a few pops before we got our way around the dipping part and we managed to come up with picture perfect ones. It was great fun and that was more important than me making an article out of it.

In theory these little snowman cake pops are super easy to make but covering them with chocolate is always pretty difficult for me (I had a pretty tough time when working on these eye balls). But I think I found the “trick” this time around. I mixed the baking chocolate with a little butter and milk during the melting process (added bit by bit until I was happy with the texture) so the chocolate became runny enough for me to nicely dip the cake balls but not too runny so it wasn’t dripping much.
Also I found that double dipping works better for me. Plus the lollipop sticks helped a great deal with dipping, so much easier and a lot less messier than rolling the balls through chocolate with forks.
These are terribly cute, and they’re also a great way to use up leftover cake. I used some leftovers from a Cherry pound cake recipe (I’m truly amazed at how we managed to have leftovers!), which I crumbled and added a bit of Nutella and butter and then kept in the freezer for 15 minutes. The teaspoon of grated orange peel I added also gave a lot more flavor to the pops. I used Hershey’s Kisses Cookies ‘n’ Creme, food frosting and Oreo’s to decorate these adorable snowman cake pops (if you have mini Oreo’s, they would look better and cuter)
What flavor is the snowman cake pop?
Mine are mostly orange as I added grated orange zest. But you can choose any flavor you like. You can replace the orange zest with lemon zest or completely remove the zest and use extract of choice like vanilla or rum. Mint is also a great flavor for Christmas, same as cinnamon.
What can you use instead of candy melts for cake pops?
I used plain white baking chocolate for the chocolate dip but white chocolate chips are also a great alternative!
Snowman cake pops recipe
These adorable snowman cake pops are super easy to make and will use a few simple ingredients you most likely have on hand, especially if you love baking.
You’ll need leftovers pound cake (recipe here), unsalted butter, Nutella, white baking chocolate, grated orange peel, milk, food frosting in colors of choice (for eyes, nose and mouth), Oreo’s and Hershey’s Kisses Cookies ‘n’ Creme for the hat and lollipop sticks (or cocktail sticks).
How do you make snowman cake pops from scratch?
- Line a baking sheet with baking paper.
How long do you chill cake pops before dipping?
- In a bowl, finely crumble the cake and add 4 tablespoon butter, orange peel and Nutella. Knead the mixture with your hands until you get a smooth texture.
- Keep in the freezer for 15 minutes.
- Using a small ice cream scoop, scoop mounds onto the prepared baking sheet and roll into tight balls.
- Stick the lollipop sticks into the cake balls and refrigerate for 10 more minutes.
How do you dip the perfect cake pops?
- Meanwhile mix the white chocolate bar with 1 tablespoon butter and 2 tablespoons milk, in a bowl and microwave (start with 30 seconds on the highest, then continue in increments of 15 seconds until chocolate is fully melted and runny). Add a bit more butter and milk if needed.
- Grab each cake pop by the stick and start rolling through the melted chocolate until fully covered. You may need to do some more rolling after you pull the pops out of the chocolate bowl so the chocolate won’t drip (I was actually blowing over the pops for the chocolate to harden faster; I know, I’m funny like that!). Lay on the baking sheet “face up”. Move as quickly as possible as the chocolate in the bowl hardens pretty fast.
What do you do when cake pops fall apart?
The first layer of chocolate should do a good job at keeping the cake pops together but I prefer to “reinforce” this layer with a second layer.
- Do all cake then transfer to freezer for 15 minutes.
- Repeat the dipping for a second layer of chocolate.
- Decorate the snowman cake pops with food frosting, Hershey’s kisses and Oreo’s.
