How to make parmesan cauliflower rice

Garlic parm cauliflower rice is a go-to dish for many reasons.

  • Fresh Cauliflower: The star of the dish, finely chopped to resemble rice grains.
  • Butter: Adds richness and helps to create a smooth texture.
  • Onion: Provides a mild, sweet flavor that forms the base of the dish.
  • Garlic: Infuses the rice with a robust, aromatic depth.
  • Parmesan Cheese: The key ingredient for that delicious, cheesy goodness.
  • Salt and Pepper: Essential seasonings to balance and enhance all the flavors.

  • Food Processor: Essential for chopping the cauliflower into rice-like pieces quickly and efficiently.
  • Non-Stick Skillet: Helps to cook the cauliflower evenly without sticking.
  • Wooden Spatula: Ideal for stirring and sautéing, ensuring the cauliflower rice cooks perfectly.

Instructions to make the cauliflower rice

  1. Cut the cauliflower into florets (including stems) that will fit into the feeding tube of food processor.
  2. Fit food processor with the grating disc.
  3. Place lid on, then push the cauliflower florets into the feeding tube with the processor running on low. Pulse until the florets become rice-like in size.

  1. Sauté Onions and Garlic: In a non-stick skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic, and sauté for 1 minute or until translucent.
  2. Add Cauliflower Rice: Add the riced cauliflower to the skillet, stirring well to combine with the onion and garlic mixture.
  3. Season and Cook: Season with salt and pepper, and cook until cauliflower is heated through.
  4. Finish with Parmesan: Add parmesan and stir to melt for a total of about 5 minutes. Only cook cauliflower rice until it is just cooked, don’t let it go soft and mushy as it gets watery. Serve decorated with more parmesan and fresh herbs.

  1. Avoid Over processing: When using the food processor, be careful not to over process the cauliflower. You want a rice-like texture, not a mash.
  2. Dry the Cauliflower: After processing, lay the cauliflower rice on a towel to remove any excess moisture which can make the dish watery.
  3. Use Fresh Parmesan: Freshly grated parmesan cheese melts better and has a richer flavor compared to pre-grated options.

Recipe Variations

  1. Cheddar Cauliflower Rice: Swap out parmesan for sharp cheddar cheese for a different cheesy twist.
  2. Spicy Cauliflower Rice: Add a bit of cayenne pepper or chili flakes for a kick of heat.
  3. Herb-infused Cauliflower Rice: Mix in herbs like fresh parsley, basil, or cilantro for added freshness.
  4. Mushroom Cauliflower Rice: Include sautéed mushrooms for an earthy, umami flavor.
